Perry Hi-Way offers fire prevention education to any entity within Summit Township, and will participate with local departments for events outside of Summit. The fire prevention team is made up of active Perry Hi-Way members both EMS & Fire line.
The team has, in the past, set up fire drills and emergency planning for local schools and churches. The team can assist in creating and drilling in emergency procedures (natural disasters, fire incidents, etc.) The team also has access to a county mobile Fire Prevention House which is set up to simulate emergency's in the home and practice emergency preparedness, contacting 911, and how to appropriately exit a smoke filled home.
The fire prevention team can also bring up local Fire and EMS apparatus to educate children and residents of the activities and capabilities of the local fire department. Children are offered the opportunity to see first hand the vehicles that would otherwise scare them in an emergency situation.
During events the team may also bring up Freddy the Fire Truck. Freddie the Fire Truck is an exciting tool for teaching fire safety. A fully animated fire truck robot, Freddie moves, speaks, listens, plays audio cassette tapes, turns on his lights and sounds his siren, all by remote control. Freddy can also squirt water upon request.
